What you can expect from an article, and what we do when it is wrong.
Sources
Every published article lists its sources, and every factual claim should be traceable to one. Sources are only listed if they were actually consulted. Where sources disagree, the article says so rather than choosing quietly.
Use of AI tools
The Yorewire editor independently researches each topic and prepares the notes and material on which every article is based. AI tools are used to assist with structuring and editing this material into a finished article, and with checking spelling, grammar, punctuation and consistency with the cited sources. The editor reviews these suggestions, makes any necessary revisions, and gives every article a final proofread and editorial review before publication. All articles are published under the site owner’s editorial responsibility.
AI tools are never treated as a source. Every factual claim must be traceable to a listed source, and quotations are only used if they are found in one.
Images
Photographs, maps and other images are public domain, openly licensed, licensed, or our own, and each shows its credit and licence.
Some illustrations on Yorewire are created with AI tools. Each one is clearly marked as AI-generated in its credit line. These images are there to set the scene: they are never presented as historical images or as evidence.
Corrections
If we get something wrong, we fix it and record the correction at the end of the article, with its date. Small typographical fixes are not listed. To report a mistake, use the contact page.
Independence
Affiliate links, advertising and donations help fund the site but do not decide what is written or how. Affiliate links are always disclosed near the links (see the affiliate disclosure).
